Last Saturday, the "Fiestas de Santiago Apóstol en Pliego" began with the celebration of the Mass and the proclamation of the festivities by Juan Abellán Faura in the auditorium 'Parque de las Cañadas'.
The preacher Faura made a very personal perspective remembering since the emergence of these festivals and their evolution in the following years, and influenced all the work done so that nowadays are fully consolidated and long awaited by the plebian citizens.
Abellán Faura made an emotional dedication to his grandfather, the master brother, focusing on the depth of faith and the feeling that being a member of the Brotherhood and being able to participate in both the Holy Week and in this outstanding santas celebration of Santiago Apóstol.
He also stressed the meaning of the cross and its maintenance always standing for the people of Pliego, and added to the proposal to study that July 25 be declared a local holiday.
In the act of proclamation also intervened the mayor of Pliego, Antonio Huéscar Pérez, thanked the effort of all the people who work for the realization of these festivities and congratulated on behalf of the City Council Juan Abellán Faura for his proclamation and the Brotherhood of Santiago Apóstol for his organization.
Afterwards, the chupinazo of the beginning of the festivities and a small fireworks castle was launched, just after a great concert of the local musical group 'Nuestra Señora de los Remedios'.
Programming of the parties from this Thursday
The festivity will be resumed on the day of St. James, with the solemn Eucharist and the first day of the triduum dedicated to the whole Parish and celebrated by the parish priest D. Angel Soler Larrosa at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday 25. Already on Friday, June 26, the second day of the triduum dedicated to catechists and brothers of the parish of Santiago Apóstol will be celebrated, and you can enjoy the concert of ECOS, the International Festival of Ancient Music of Sierra Espuña, with the performance of 'Serendipity' in the Sala de las Jars with free admission.
Then, around 22:00 hours, the start of tapas and beer in the Parque de las Cañadas will begin on a night filled with Discomóvil, the concert of the folding group 'Viento en popa', the mojito party and the session of 'DJ Caballo'.
On the morning of Saturday, July 27, there will be a swimming championship in the municipal swimming pools, which will be inscribed on the premises in a fun day where there will be surprises and gifts.
In the afternoon, the solemn Eucharist will be offered and the third day of triduum dedicated to the youngest and offered by the parish priest of our town, Mr. Manuel Jiménez.
Then proceed to the traditional procession through the streets of Pliego with the image of Santiago Apóstol that will culminate in the square with a fireworks castle.
That night the party will continue in the Parque de las Cañadas starting at midnight with the orchestra group 'El sitio de mi garaje' and the delivery of winners of the Ruta de la Cap 2019 held a few weeks ago.
To culminate these holidays, on Sunday July 28 from 12 in the morning there will be a musical party with Discomóvil and a tasty paella to taste among all attendees.
