La Plaza Mayor de Pliego and his environment a new look (24/07/2009)

The general director of Housing and Architecture, Mark Nogueroles, accompanied by the Director General of Trade and Crafts, Julio José Lorenzo, and the Mayor of Pliego, Isabel Toledo, today inaugurated the renovation work on the Plaza Mayor of the town, action that has been funded by the Autonomous Community over 526.202euros.

This square and its surroundings in the historic heart of the town, are the most representative urban space Pliego, which houses some of the most important architectural buildings of the municipality, such as Casa Grande, restored as town hall and other number of representative buildings of folk architecture pleguera.

"The works, which have led urban restructuring of a significant public space for the inhabitants of the municipality, where it merges some of the activity taking place in the town, they have also re-evaluate both the City Hall and the House of Commendation , which are perfectly aligned with the new distribution of seats in their environment, "said the CEO.

The materials used provide a cutting-edge image of the square, where stands the new cobblestone paving base ceramic type of black and red alternating with cream-colored stone with open joints.

On the other hand, the new employee and illuminated street furniture will be the unifying elements of the whole, whose rehabilitation aims walkable space that represents an improvement of civic life and greater control of vehicular traffic in the area.

The square boxes now has stepped into the traditional species that are available: cypress, Canary palms, olives and herbs.

As a decorative element is arranged a sheet of water in the main square and the roundabout was placed a bust of Federico Balart, journalist and poet Pliego natural.

The performance has been possible thanks to the rehabilitation of public spaces with which the Community has in the best conditions the most important sites in the region, which in this case has allowed the refurbishment of a total of 4,451 meters, including the Plaza Square Mayor, the Mayor Glorieta and streets and Juan de la Cierva, physically and conceptually integrating all areas under the same architectural pattern to retrieve the activity of the area and provide the people of the municipality a renovated area of recreation and leisure.
