The investments in the Pliego treatment plant already allow for tertiary treatment to improve water for irrigation (20/08/2018)

It has had a budget of € 312,445 and has improved membrane technology to increase the capacity and quality of water treatment

This morning at the Pliego wastewater treatment plant, an institutional visit was made to check the work done to provide this treatment plant with tertiary treatment that will still improve the excellent quality of the water that is being reused.

The Managing Director of the Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Region of Murcia, ESAMUR, Joaquín Ruiz, the first deputy mayor of the City Council of Pliego, Maravillas Martínez, and the president of the Irrigation Community, Martín, attended. Jiménez.

This treatment plant last year treated a total volume of 161,618 cubic meters of water through a secondary treatment system and a basic tertiary treatment consisting of a sand filter and a chlorination labyrinth, serving a population of 4,168 equivalent inhabitants.

The construction of this tertiary treatment system has had an allocation budget of € 312,445.15.

The action has included the installation of an advanced tertiary treatment using ultrafiltration membrane technology with a capacity to treat up to 1,500 m3 / d and quality of reuse.

The project has been completed with a general rehabilitation of the electrical installations of the WWTP, as well as the automation of the same.

Among all the systems to achieve the inactivity of the pathogenic microorganisms present in wastewater, in this work has been decided by the ultrafiltration membrane system of hollow fiber, which is ideal for compliance with the new quality standards required by the union European Union for the reuse of water.

In this way, the Pliego station joins the network of sewage treatment plants that are scattered throughout the region and that make available to irrigators almost 100 cubic hectometres of treated water, a quarter of the total water that is reused for water treatment. agriculture at the national level.
