The Community of Irrigators of Pliego inaugurates a part of the largest solar photovoltaic park in Spain to be associated with irrigation (04/03/2019)

The regional government allocates 8.8 million euros to modernize the irrigations of the Community of Regantes de Pliego, as well as to execute the largest solar photovoltaic park in Spain associated with a community of irrigators.

This project will provide renewable energy with a total power of 833 kilowatts.

This park will involve a generation of renewable energy of 1,281 megawatts per hour per year, the equivalent to the average consumption of around 650 homes.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Ángel del Amor, today inaugurated the works corresponding to Sector I Huerta Alta, which has 373 hectares and a budget allocation of 3 million euros.

Among many other actions, it is worth highlighting the improvement of individual irrigation systems, agroclimatic stations to favor farmers' decision-making in the efficient use of water, remote control and the covering of a pond to reduce evaporation.

Approximately, it is expected that in a month the works of Sector II Huerta Baja will finish.

This area has 426 hectares and a budget of 5.8 million euros has been allocated to it.

Del Amor explained that "with these works, it will benefit 1,400 community members, optimizing their resources, improving the management of the network and reducing infrastructure and energy maintenance costs, becoming the most technologically advanced irrigation community in the Region."

These actions are part of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia 2014-2020.
