There will be rest areas with floral ornamentation, bioclimatic constructions that recreate the vanished image of a water-vegetation urban landscape and large panels with historical photographs of the street.
The Municipality of Pliego, through the subsidy granted by the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia 2014-2020, "Landscape-Heritage", is scheduled to start work on the Calle del Agua in order to promote recovery of this urban space for the population, and to recover from the collective memory the important heritage that originated in the Water Street from the conduction of the water by the irrigation channel Madre de Los Caños from the Fuente de los Caños to the Balsa de los Pipes.
A route declared of Cultural Interest, with the category of ethnographic site, in 2011, in recognition of the tangible and intangible heritage it houses, which needs actions to recover the vital importance that this place had until the eighties, when the economic activity disappears when stopping the machines of Almazara Santiaguista and Almazara de Julio and El Molino de Francisco el Molinero.
A transformation that not only affected the collective memory associated with work, but also the daily life.
From the City Council is remembered that "everything happened around this enclave, people remember neighbors, friends and family doing corrosion counting news, exchanging information of events, encouraging personal contacts and meetings, creating relationships or formalizing courtships, children playing with the water or older talking in the summer nights or taking the winter sun "
"A living space that has progressively lost its vitality, becoming a place of passage, that does not invite to stay, a social and cultural activity that has been displaced in the preference of other urban areas with more boom, such as the Plaza Mayor and the areas of commercial influence, for that reason the interest of this project, with which the recovery of a space is sought with the purpose of its use, becoming a haven of tranquility that encourages people to sit down and return to talk, to enjoy places that contain the main part of the collective memory of the history and culture of Pliego, because everything that makes up the local identity was born and happened in the environment of the Calle del Agua ".
To this end, resting areas with floral ornamentation and the installation of bioclimatic constructions that recreate the vanished image of a water-vegetation urban landscape have been designed to motivate those who live and transit the Calle del Agua to a new occupation.
But, above all, the project focuses on the visible placement of old photographs that interpret and give life to life on the Water Street, explaining a material and immaterial heritage that, although disappeared in the maelstrom of urban growth, remains in the collective memory of this whole community, which reminds us of the rational use of water through the network of ditches, of the hydraulic constructions of flour mills, of fountains and pylons, of drinking troughs and laundries and of the enormous irrigation basin that created landscapes of orchard beyond of the surroundings of the Calle del Agua.
